Meet New Associate Superintendent - Business Services Marcus Battle
Posted 8/23/19

How long have you worked in education? - I have worked in public education for over 20 years.  I worked for school districts both large and small.  I relocated from the east coast in Maryland where I worked for Montgomery County Public Schools and Baltimore City Public Schools.  Since moving to California, I have worked in Travis Unified, Walnut Creek School District, East Side Union High School District, and most recently Oakland Unified.

What is your background? - I have a Bachelors Degree in Business Administration – Finance, Masters in Public Administration, a Doctoral Certificate in Organizational Leadership, and I have a School Business Management Certificate from the University of Southern California.  I am also a CASBO Certified Chief Business Officer.

What will you bring to FUSD? - I bring over 20 years of school business management experience and I am a CASBO Certified Chief Business Officer.

What is your philosophy when it comes to your role? - I feel that my role is to support our districts mission, goals, and priorities as they relate to student achievement, staff, and facilities.  In addition, my goal is to protect the district’s interest and ensure that resources are utilized and expended in a cost effective and efficient manner.

What can the FUSD community expect from the Business Services Department? - Our FUSD community can expect the Business Services Department to provide exemplary customer service and delivery of services to our school sites, staff, and students.  We will always put the interest of our students and staff in the forefront of decisions and the delivery of services.  We will go the extra mile to meet or exceed our students’ and staff expectations.  We will look for opportunities to say yes to our sites and when we can’t say yes, we will look for opportunities for compromise to find creative solutions.  We will work collaboratively and passionately with all internal and external stakeholders to find solutions to the district financial and operational challenges. We will provide strong stewardship of funds and we will take ownership and accountability in those things within our operational sphere.

Anything else you’d like us to know about you? - I will work tirelessly on behalf of the students, staff, and community of Fremont Unified School District to ensure that their expectations are exceeded.
