Home sales flourishing at new developments feeding future Lila Bringhurst Elementary School
Posted 6/6/19

(Fremont, CA, June 6, 2019) – Construction of the 4,000 housing units in the Warm Springs/South Fremont area might not be as far along as originally planned, but buyers are snapping them up as they are being built according to the developers of the properties that will provide students to the new Lila Bringhurst Elementary School.

With more favorable weather, construction has picked up and developers report sales are strong with units preselling before they are even finished. Developers also say their challenge now is construction keeping up with sales.

The delays building the housing units resulted from a wet winter, not being able to get power from the electric company to the sites and a few other factors beyond anyone’s control. Consequently, the number of homes completed to-date is less than the original timeline projection.

Meanwhile, construction of the new Lila Bringhurst Elementary School is almost complete but since only a small percentage of neighboring housing units will be occupied with school-aged children by the start of school this August, Fremont Unified School District (FUSD) recently decided to delay the opening. By doing so, FUSD will realize a savings of more than $1 million during the 2019-20 school year.

“With 4,000 housing units being built, it’s not a question of ‘if’ there will be enough students to populate the school, just ‘when,’” said Dr. Kim Wallace, Superintendent. “We are happy to hear this current report of home sales and are anxious to welcome these families to the new Bringhurst Elementary School.”

Several developers began this joint project more than five years ago under an agreement with FUSD to have an elementary school serve the new housing complexes. The developers paid for the majority of the school.

Students currently residing in the new development will attend FUSD schools according to the District’s existing attendance areas where space is available until the opening of Bringhurst Elementary School.
