March 27, 2019, FUSD Board of Education Meeting – Measure E Bond Program

Regarding items related to facilities and construction at the meeting, the Board:

  • Approved Option 1 to improve the theater at Washington High School and authorize $3.9 million from Measure E bond funds for the project with the understanding that those funds be replaced at a later date, if possible, from bond interest income or other funds, such as Fund 25 – Capital Facilities Fund (also known as Developer Fee Funds) or Fund 40 – Special Fund for Capital Outlay Projects (also known as Sale of Site Funds).
     
  • Approved funds for renovations to the Carmen R. Melendez Elementary School site and authorized staff to enter into an agreement in the amount of $104,500 with Quattrochi Kwok Architects for architectural design services. This amount is included in the total project budget of $3 million, of which $2,760,268 will come from Fund 25 – Capital Facilities Fund (also known as Developer Fee Funds), and $239,732 from Fund 40 – Special Fund for Capital Outlay Projects (also known as Sale of Site Funds). This is a non-Measure E project.

 

  • Authorized staff to enter into three agreements: 1. Rodan Builders, Inc. for general contractor, 2. Santa Clara Valley Construction Inspectors (SCVCI) for project inspector services, and 3. Signet Testing Labs, Inc. for materials testing and special inspection services; and amend the agreement with Millennium Consulting Associates to provide construction monitoring and closeout phase industrial hygienist services for the modernization project at American High School. The cost of this work is within the project budget.

  • Authorized staff to amend the agreement with Rodan Builders, Inc. in the amount of $715,000 to construct the new student drop off/pick up area upgrade, exterior lighting poles, and raised crosswalks as part of the new construction project at Walters Middle School. The new student drop-off upgrade is required by the Final Environmental Impact Report. With the amendment, the revised total contract amount with Rodan is now $18,592,047. The cost of this work is within the budget for the project.

 

  • Selected Parent/Guardian Pon Sivongxay to serve as a member of the Facilities Advisory Committee to represent the Irvington attendance area.
