March 13, 2019, FUSD Board of Education Meeting – Measure E Bond Program
Posted 3/13/19

Regarding items related to the Measure E Bond Program, the Board:

  • Authorized staff to amend the agreement with RMA Group in the amount of $21,846 for the new construction project at Walters Middle School. The total amount of the agreement is now $156,225. Additional materials testing and special inspection services will be required to complete the new student drop-off upgrade as required by the Final Environmental Impact Report (FEIR). These additional services include testing for the earthwork compaction, concrete walkway placement, and asphalt concrete pavement compaction associated with the construction of the new drop-off upgrade.

  • Received a presentation on the schematic design for the new construction and modernization project at Thornton Middle School (Thornton) and directed staff to proceed with field layout Option 1. The site currently has a track and baseball field. The existing track and baseball field will be replaced with a new parking lot. Option 1 will replace the existing 333 meter track with a new track of the same length and baseball field. This will achieve parity with the track facilities at the new construction project at Horner Middle School, and sets a standard for future middle school conversions. The estimate for Option 1 is within the project’s $76 million budget.

  • Authorized staff to enter into an agreement with Blach Construction Company in the amount of $451,836 to provide lease lease back (LLB) preconstruction services for the new construction and modernization project at Thornton Middle School. On September 26, 2018, the Board received a presentation on the new construction and modernization project at Thornton and provided direction to proceed with Option 2b at a cost of $76 million. The new conversion project at Thornton is currently in the schematic design phase and is on track to open for the 2021-22 school year.
